Dod Enterprise Email

The Department of Defense is on the verge of implementing its first global cloud email system. The system will come bundled with collaboration tools like videoconferencing and chat. It will save the DoD about $150 million in five years. And, it will be available in 2019! Interested? Read on to learn more about how the system will change how DoD workers communicate. And, stay tuned for updates on this new technology. We’ll be tracking it closely!

DoD’s first cloud-based global email system

The Defense Department recently migrated the one millionth user into its enterprise email system. The Navy and Air Force are testing the system, too. The program is operated by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), a newly formed government agency created to consolidate disparate email systems. Until recently, the Army operated its email system as a collection of local services. It estimates that moving to the cloud will save $70 million a year.

The Army’s deployment of the system will allow it to serve 80,000 BlackBerrys and 700 Apple, Android, and Windows Mobile devices. Eventually, this system will support mobile device management infrastructure and an internal app store, and DISA is asking industry to build the infrastructure. The project will be completed in November 2022, after which the Army will be free to use it on all devices. And once it is ready, the Army will use a consumption-based pricing model to ensure seamless communications between systems.

It will be bundled with videoconferencing, chat and other collaboration tools

Microsoft recently announced that it will begin migrating Defense Enterprise Email (DEE) customers to its Microsoft 365 service. According to Rodney Saxon, chief of the DOD Enterprise Email Branch, DOD-branded email is going to be bundled with videoconferencing, chat, document sharing, and more. Microsoft’s Teams package also provides reliable chat, presence monitoring, and accountability.

DoD has also added video conferencing to its lineup of collaboration tools. Video conferencing is a secure and fast way to communicate with your team. Many companies are converting to video-first organizations, using video as their primary method of communication. When email or audio is not an option, they fall back to video. By using video, you’ll be able to ensure that everyone understands the message and isn’t misunderstood.

It will save $150 million over five years

Defense Enterprise Email (DEE) is an interagency program that revolutionized communication for the whole force. It included uniform protocols, single-use email addresses, and a single database accessible from any location. It eliminated the need for individual command and unit mail servers and their associated power, licensing, and maintenance costs. The program also introduced the Global Address List, a searchable directory of 4.5 million Common Access Card holders.

The Army has successfully completed most of its migration to DOD Enterprise Email, giving users secure access to their email anytime and anywhere. The migration, which started in January 2011, will improve operational effectiveness, security, and efficiency. This program will save the U.S. Army around $150 million over five years. It will be available in 2019

While the current Defense Enterprise Email system (DEE) is due to expire on March 20, 2022, the Department of Defense is moving toward a new cloud-based back-office enterprise system. Known as Army 365 or DOD365, the new systems are largely based on the Microsoft Office 365 product, with added cybersecurity measures. As a result, they are expected to be available to all users sometime in 2019.

To ensure that DoD enterprise email stays secure and reliable, users must follow certain guidelines. Firstly, they must make sure that their CAC is signed by the same company as their email address. Otherwise, the DOD enterprise email will not be available. Users should follow the instructions that are specific to their operating system. For example, Mac users should look for the PIV certificate and Chrome users should look for “Smart Card Login” in the certificate information.
